Guidance on Employing Children

The Department for Children Schools and Family has published and excellent Guide on the Employment of Children which is intended to clarify the law and promote best practice amongst employers, parents, local authorities and stakeholders.
The Guidance covers ares including:
- Age limits and permissible working hours;
- The kinds of work children can do;
- The kinds of work prohibited or restricted;
- Meeting Health and Safety requirements;
- Permits, offences and fines;
- Work experience;
- The implications for employers. Local authorities, schools, parents and children themselves;
- Safeguarding children in the workplace.
This guidance covers employment in England. The Welsh Assembly Government will make its own arrangements for any guidance for Wales. Separate but similar legislation applies in Scotland.
