National Minimum Wage rates to increase from October 2011

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has announced that National Minimum Wage rates will increase from 1st October 2011.
The new rates are as follows:

Adults’ rates up 15p from £5.93 to £6.08 an hour;

18 to 20 year olds’ rates up by 6p to £4.98 an hour;

16 to17 year olds’ rates up by 4p to £3.68 an hour;

Apprentices' rates up by 10p to £2.60 an hour.
The Government accepted the recommendations by the Low Pay Commission to protect Britain’s lowest paid workers. It is estimated that 890,000 low paid workers will gain from the changes.
