In an unprecedented move, a group of Oldham-based companies are joining forces to help conquer the effects of the recession.
Through a series of networking and information events, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce along with Oldham Council are bringing together all the constituent parts of the construction sector; construction companies, architects, the legal profession and other interested parties, to help them explore the possibilities of joint ventures, inform them of the construction opportunities available in Oldham and help companies understand how the tendering process works.
The aim of the events is to ensure that companies based within Oldham will be able to benefit from construction opportunities and tenders for regeneration projects that arise within the Oldham borough.
The latest Oldham Construction Event, chaired by Peter Greenhalgh, took place on Wednesday 3rd February at the Bower Hotel, Oldham. It was attended by approximately 140 individuals and the main topic of discussion was the PFI Gateways to Oldham project, a £100m housing redevelopment and refurbishment scheme. Lead by Rok plc, the presentation highlighted a variety of sub-contracting tendering packages that could be taken advantage of by Oldham businesses.
Roger Hinchliffe, Corporate and Commercial Partner at Pearson Hinchliffe Commercial Law, spoke to the attendees about joint ventures and the opportunities available for an Oldham construction consortium. Through working with Oldham Council, the consortium could be embarking on a groundbreaking initiative, taking on contracts through joint ventures that individual companies alone would not normally have been able to apply for.
Commenting on the Oldham Construction Events, Paul Roberts, Oldham Local Council Chamber President, said:
“These events have been designed to help one of the sectors worst-hit by the recession. The events are being developed and led by private sector construction specialists who are able to pass on their expertise in helping other organisations apply for public and private sector contracts. Through working together, large and small companies within the Oldham construction sector are aiming to lift themselves out of recession and get business moving again.”
The next meeting will be held at the Bower Hotel on Wednesday 5th May.
